5 Promising Cannabis Studies (part 5)

Cannabigerol (CBG) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that is considered a minor cannabinoid. DI Brierley et al. from University of Reading, Berkshire, UK presented interesting data on how CBG was able to mitigate the muscle wasting that occurs in 80% of anorexia and cancer patients. The recent study shows that CBG reversed body weight and muscle mass loss caused by cisplatin. The ever important type IIA and IIx muscle fibers that are most responsive to loaded exercise that have both high force capacity, growth potential, and fatigue resistance appeared to be spared by CBG use.

Further research is necessary to figure out the mechanism of this protective effect. It could be affecting the pathway that control muscle protein synthesis/anabolism, or protein breakdown/catabolism, or both!
